Parenting Supports

Helping Parents and Caregivers

Parenting Support

Parenting is full of ups and downs, and I often remind parents that there is no perfect manual for raising the unique children we have or navigating the situations life presents. Every family is different, and parenting can feel both incredibly rewarding and, at times, overwhelming.

At Open Door Psychology, I work with parents and caregivers to sort through some of the challenges that can arise in parenting. These sessions provide a supportive space to reflect, gain perspective, and develop strategies that align with your family’s values and your child’s individual needs.

Parents and caregivers may seek support for many different reasons, including:

  • Navigating challenging behaviours at home or school

  • Supporting a child with anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, or big feelings

  • Parenting a neurodivergent child (such as ADHD, autism, or learning differences)

  • Strengthening connection and communication with your child or teen

  • Managing family transitions such as separation, divorce, blending families, or relocation

  • Supporting children through stressful or traumatic experiences

  • Understanding developmental stages and age-appropriate expectations

  • Reducing power struggles and building more effective parenting strategies

  • Addressing school challenges, motivation, or peer concerns

  • Coping with the mental load and stress that often comes with parenting

Parenting support sessions can focus on practical tools, understanding your child’s emotional world, and helping you feel more confident in your parenting approach. My goal is to meet parents where they are and support them in creating a family environment that feels more connected, balanced, and manageable.

Divorce/Separation and Co-Parenting

Co-Parenting Support During Separation or Divorce

Separation and divorce can bring many emotional and practical challenges for families. During this time, parents are often navigating their own transitions while also trying to support their children through change. Co-parenting support sessions provide a space to focus on strategies that help reduce conflict, strengthen communication, and keep children’s well-being at the centre.

In these sessions, we may explore topics such as:

  • Supporting children emotionally through separation or divorce

  • Navigating co-parenting communication and boundaries

  • Reducing conflict and tension around parenting decisions

  • Helping children adjust to two homes and changing routines

  • Managing differences in parenting styles between households

  • Developing strategies that prioritize the child’s emotional security and stability

These sessions focus on helping parents better understand their child’s needs during family transitions and developing practical approaches that support healthier co-parenting dynamics.

Please note that while I provide parenting and co-parenting support, I do not offer reunification therapy or court-ordered reunification services.
