Our couples therapy sessions help partners deepen their connection, improve communication, and resolve conflicts. Open Door Psychology works with couples to identify patterns of behaviour that may be causing distress and provide tools to help them build a stronger, healthier relationship.
Julie relies on strategies from both Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy, however, she takes her time to learn about the couple, and individuals in the relationship, to see what approach will be most beneficial. It is important to Julie that both partners feel heard and respected during sessions, while offering support to help move the couple in a direction towards their goals. She comes from a non-judgemental stance and honours the thoughts and beliefs of clients.
Initially, couples come together and discuss relationship history, stressors, goals, and other areas that may be putting pressure on the unit. Generally after a few sessions, the therapist may ask to see each partner for an individual session to delve deeper into some of the issues presented. When clients are seen separate, this information can be brought up during times when partners are together. The therapist's role is to keep lines of communication open, encourage honesty, and support both the individual, and the couple, to find resolution.
At Open Door Psychology, we recognize that all relationship dynamics are different and welcome all to the clinic. Our door is open to listen, work through, and gently guide you through the process of couple's counselling.
