If you are new counselling, you may not know what to expect. There are many misconceptions regarding therapy and I am hoping to answer them in the video called, Questions about Therapy and Counselling.
Attending the first session and do not know what to do? Here is a video that may help answer some of those questions.
You can book either a 50 or 80 minute session for individual or group counselling. Sessions start and end on time to honour both your time and clients before or after.
At this time, I can direct bill to Alberta Blue Cross., Medavie Blue Cross and VAC. Other than this, clients will need to submit receipts after sessions.
Open Door Psychology accepts all major credit cards and e-trasnfer. The Jane App is used to book sessions and process billing. When you sign up as a new client, there will be a space to add your credit card information and you will be billed after each session.

I started my counselling career in the education system in 2014. For the next 8 years, I worked with school-aged children and families with academic, social, emotional, and relationship needs. During the majority of the time, I was a CCC and continued Professional Development, learning about both child and adult strategies and interventions to support mental health. In 2022, I started the process to register as a psychologist, and currently am a Registered Provisional Psychologist.
Absolutely! As a former teacher and school counsellor, most of my students were teenagers and I enjoy connecting and working with them in a counselling capacity.
As a therapist, my role is not give advice, rather support the client in exploring ways to work through the concerns they bring to session.
Some clients come to session with specific symptoms related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, focus, attention, anger, etc., and during this time, we may explore some strategies to manage what the client is experiencing.
Typically at the end of the session, the therapist will review the content and explore things to consider in between your next visit. There usually is not a worksheet, but maybe a handout explaining some of the topics discussed. In addition, there may be some exercises recommended, like writing in a journal or breathing exercises.
No, the therapist will not be upset or disappointment if you do not do what was discussed at the previous session. We understand how busy lives can be, and the therapeutic process is unique to each person.
The best answer here is that it depends. For some, it can be helpful to book once a week until symptoms are feeling more manageable. Other times, booking every 2-3 weeks can be helpful since it will give you enough time to practice some of the strategies and ideas discussed during session.
The building Open Door Psychology is located in is locked so the therapist will need to come get you prior to the session. Due to this, arriving 10 minutes or later before your appointment would be best. Once you arrive, let the clinic know and they will come open the door. Of course if it is cold, please stay in your car.
